the morning grind

when your 2 year old wakes up at 5:20 am in the morning, it's going to be a long day….which basically means everyday is a long day….because that's when she wakes up….and we pull her out of her crib so she won't wake up her sister….until she does, then everyone is awake….with hours to kill….cranky….tired….coffee is not enough….to get me through…..I want to hear some music….but no music in the morning….our 5 year old daughter's rule….when did kids rule the world….when did we care so much about what they think, what they want??….when we were kids it just seemed things were the way they were…the way it was…..less options, more imagining….now, with technology, the mystery of imagining a world in which you would want to inhabit is gone…..bring back the mystery….I don't want to be the person who says, "same old, same old…" but we search to find inspiration in the #polarvortex and the lives we lead….and that is….the journey…..I've been hesitant to post as of late b/c I want to only share the less meaningless and the more meaningful stuff…..I want to share what's real and what it is like to be a dad and a rocker and live in brooklyn in 2014…..yo…..dz

There is no morning - there is an endless day of....
Each time we awaken it is a precious gift of which some day there will be less. It doesn't make it any less painful - in fact, in some ways it is more so because we know what we are missing...an opportunity to sleep in!
Hang in there all you Brooklyn Dads (&Moms).

I think YOU need to make the rules Brooklyn rocker Dad. It's not your 5-year-old's place to tell you when you can listen to music. You need to use a firm hand, and limit HER use of things you consider not good for her, e.g. playing with tablets and phones, staring at TV. You are the adult.

thanks ruth….sleep is a big issue in our house….i agree with you on the limiting iPad use etc…….hopefully it gets easier as they get older and sleep more?:)
