what r.e.m. meant to me

Growing up in the Midwest, I discovered r.e.m. early on from a classmate who will remain nameless while in choir class.  He told me to listen to early r.e.m., murmur, reckoning, those were the records I needed to check out before document, (still one of my favorite records of all time).  I have memories of visiting my older brother in NYC & hearing those records and then moving to LA and falling in love, fables, life's rich pageant & dead letter office were part of the soundtrack of our lives (That girl I fell in love with is now my wife :) .  When my wife was pregnant with Dylan, we went & saw R.E.M. play an awesome show at Madison Square Garden.   And looking back to my 27th birthday party in LA....I remember meeting Michael Stipe at The Chateau Marmont and telling him how important his band was to me in my life.  I think Chris Martin was there too......
