I didn't have to write this letter man...bc I already shaked your hand....and thanked you...for giving me hope...
on the Brooklyn bound F train today, I listened to you talk to your teenage son...
..about the art on the train...and about the city..and how it was...and you talked about the greatness of things...and about work and dealing with stress...and meditation....it was hard for me not to listen...you talked with wonder about life....I hear parents talking at their kids all the time...but your conversation was different...there was something in your voice....it sounded as though you were talking to a friend.....you told stories...it gave me hope...my stop was coming up but I felt the need to thank you...to thank you for being there for your son...for being in the moment with him...for in this day and age that is something in itself...
You didn't have to engage with your kid....you didn't have to engage with me...so thanks man...for giving me hope...hope that we can be something more than we are .for living in the moment and listening to our kids and giving them a voice and listening to me...these tears are not tears of sadness but they are tears of hope and possibility....the possibility that every kid has a dad like you who listens to them and takes them to the city to show them all the things you love.....I told you my name...now....what is yours?
