when I was a carpetbagger
Something about the fall reminds me of R.E.M. Something about this season makes me put on "Murmur" or "Life's Rich Pageant". I'm not afraid to wear my influences on my sleeve. Just like Michael said that we are all "Standing on the shoulders of giants". I got to meet him once and got to tell him how he inspired me. I think "Document" stands out as one of best anti establishment albums ever. The way they were indie before there was Nirvana. When I listen to early R.E.M. albums, it's like I'm at a club in Athens, Georgia. It's a good place to be. I got to spend some time in the south. I learned a lot from bands like The Connells and The Veldt. They put me up. They help me put out records and we played shows together. I was a stranger to them. I was a carpetbagger so to speak. And they lived in Raliegh. And I lived in Chapel Hill.
