I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Cornell and Chrissie Hynde. The Pretenders to me are a perfect pop band. She was so down to earth and so real you knew she must have been from the Midwest. And to have come out of London in that scene and in that time. The Pretenders also were instrumental in bringing fellow Wisconsinites The Violet Femmes to national attention.
Talk about standing on the shoulders of giants. Nirvana turned me onto the "Seattle Scene" that came out of discontent with the eighties. And Soundgarden was one of the first of those bands to break on Sub Pop. But Chris's voice always has stood out to me. He's not afraid to take chances with his music and was totally down to earth just like Hynde. They represent the rock that I grew up and made me want to become a musician and their music will stand the test of time because they let the music speak for itself. Which is the way it should be.
If you really want to decompress, turn up this song in your car and take a drive through the mountains.
