I was told by a friend of mine today that she wanted me to write about the realities of being a parent in my blog. That I come off sometimes as too cheery. You want the truth? The truth, like life is, parenting is not fair. You must give up a lot and compromise your identity to some extent and sometimes you feel like you forgot what your other life was like. That kids take a toll on your marriage and your work and your other family life and your sleep.
But than again, so does life. The truth is is that we are all trying to figure it out. Whether we have kids or not. In an uncertain world we are looking for happiness and closeness that some find through work. Some find through marriage. Some find through kids. And all I'm trying to do is tell you about my world and how I deal and cope with it. You may find this information useful. If I told you that it sucks being a parent sometimes, you would tell me that you understand (If you have kids). If I told you that kids take a toll on your marriage you would tell me that I was preaching to the converted. So like life, having kids is an up and down game. Some days you are in wonder of your child. Some days you wish you could sleep in. Some days you wish you could go see a movie like Friends With Kids. Or you could just live it and skip the movie altogether. Either way, it's not all good, it's just life. There. Friend.
