runnin' down a dream

I watched the tom petty documentary last night "runnin' down a dream"....I had seen it before but it took on a much deeper meaning now that he's gone.....the songs...the production....the voice...the man who wouldn't back down to the record company after he signed a bad record deal because according to tom....he thought publishing meant songbooks..,,,but he stood up to MCA and that was that....the jimmy iovine stories are amazing as well as the stevie nicks interview....at one point she said she wanted to leave fleetwood mac and join the heartbreakers.....but it's just a testimont that so many people adored tom not just for the music and the songwriting but for his humor and the kind of person he was....and from the records he made later on in his career....he was a songwriter....he lived and breathed the song....it was a different time as well...people were open to it back than when he came along there was a movement of people looking for something through the music....he talks about his chance meeting with Elvis when tom was a kid....it changed his life....and when the Beatles came on TV in 1964 tom realized what the rest of his life was going to be....he's the master of the first line....he talks about not having a lot of hobbies and just wanting to play music and write and play with the heartbreakers....the film looks at each member of the heartbreakers and how influential Mike Campbell was on him....and the changes and the ups and downs along the way...it's a fascinating story....of a fascinating man....who I will never forget.....
