"baby don't it feel like heaven right now don't it feel like something from a dream".....
petty opens up the waiting with this question...what an amazing first line....also....he wrote this song before everyone was walking around town staring at a phone....snapchatting.....not paying attention to the people walking by on the street...basically....missing living life.....my point is.....no one ever describes being on their phone as feeling like their in heaven....and that's what were missing these days....the magic is lost because everyone is lost in their phones.....I see it on the train....I see on the street....what are you looking at? what is so important that your missing the daily interaction with people? did blondie or talking heads or nirvana start with a text? a social media update? I know this makes me sound dated but life had much more mystery before phones and social media took over. and I'm not saying I'm not apart of that but at least with the blog I can say more than 200 characters or whatever.....at least I can get into it.....the mystery is gone because we're missing those fate meetings because people are lost on their phones and think that they can use the phone as a shield from human contact....but it's not good.....random fate meetings usually happen in random fate circumstances...if everyone is looking down at a phone and consumed by this device....how can anything random or fate-like happen? think of all the great collaborations in music that have happened over the years....like how Frank Black would never have found Kim Deal through the Boston classifieds.....or Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl.....Need I say more. So put down the phone. And go to a cafe or a show. And open yourself up to the possibilities.
Or stay home and have some friends over and put on The Replacements starting with this song:
