this note's for you neil young

"Harvest Moon"
Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.

But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

I grew up in Canada just as Neil did.  Although it was a different time, I understand how a man could leave his home country in pursuit of something better.  In pursuit of musicians and folks like himself.  Open to a new world.  And that world was in California.  Laurel Canyon was a scene I dream about.  This young Canadian singer songwriter opened up his heart like no man had done before.   His confessions are the blueprint for every singer songwriter to follow him.  No boundaries, trespassing all that was expected of an artist.  And during The Band's Last Waltz, Young didn't hold back. And he has never held back.  He influenced a generation of music in that his punk rockness didn't hold him back in trying new things musically.  And California and the openness of the skies allowed him to truly break down the doors of perception.

Happy bday Neil, may your records get better and better and your work be a testament to what one can achieve in a lifetime.

Cheers my friend.
