why we had a doula

For all you folks in the pregnancy phase of the baby making process, I thought I would give you a piece of advice.  If it's financially feasible for you, get a doula. For so many reasons.  They've been through labor.  They know the nurses at the hospitals by name. They probably given birth as well. They are a buffer for you and your wife.  It's fun to have a doula.  They make a connection to baby at birth and for life.  Our doula lives in the hood and she's gotten to see our babies grow (See above). They know how to get a private room.  Bringing a doula with you to the hospital is like rolling with your own entourage.  It's like your VIP and you're not even on the list.  And they'll help you labor at home.  And get food for you when you can't leave.  I can't tell you how essential it was to have our doula along for the ride.  Feel free to comment on your experiences with doulas and natural births and laboring and anything else related to the baby making process.
