Unexpected Positive Consequence:How Obama brought Blacks & Jews Together

Lashan Browning, an African American TV producer and Dan Zweben, a New York singer songwriter-part-time TV producer met while working on a Food Network show. But their friendship really grew from election talk/emails/ watching youtube spots (at one point attempting to cover "The Great Schlep" before Sarah Silverman did) Zweben had volunteered for Obama during the primary and came from a big Democratic family. Obama also had used Zweben's song "Oregon" for his Super Bowl Ad and during the primary which Zweben thought would help him break from obscurity as a musician. And as for Lashan Browning, an African American TV producer living in Fort Greene with her husband and her 5 year old son, the thought of having a black president was almost unreal. As the election grew closer, she became skeptical that America would vote in its first African American president. But Zweben was optimistic and urged her to stay positive. The battle cry was Palin for the Democrats energized their base and the country as seen by the $150 million raised by the Obama campaign in Sept. 08. But here's an unexpected cosequence of the "Yes We Can" movement. Blacks and Jews are coming together. Jews and Blacks are starting to hang like no other time in history. After strained relations during the Crown Heights/Jesse Jackson days, things look better than ever. Hasidics play reggae.....America is about to have its first African American president. The times they are a changing.
